Spa Dent Teeth Whitening FAQs
How does the Spa Dent teeth whitening system work?
Spa Dent incorporates the latest LED technologies and gel formulations to remove stains. The light accelerates the hydroxyl radicals penetrating the tooth enamel to eliminate stains.
Should I have my teeth cleaned prior to whitening?
We recommend that you have your teeth cleaned prior to whitening. For maximum results, it is recommended you whiten at your cleaning session. Many offices also use the Spa Dent prophy paste which will help in the whitening process. If you cannot go to the Dentist prior to whitening it will take several more days to achieve the same result.
Why do you offer different whitening kits?
We offer different in office and home solutions based on different needs and budgets to suit every customer.
How many sessions do I need?
For initial home whitening most people will achieve their maximum result in less than 7 days. A 40 minute in office session will achieve the maximum whitening result for over 95% of people.
Is whitening safe for tooth enamel?
Spa Dent whitening gel is PH neutral, has no silica and contains xylitol to help neutralize harmful bacteria. Problems with tooth enamel are typically associated with acidic products and abrasives.
Will my teeth be sensitive?
Over 98% of people have no tooth sensitivity.
What if I have Caps, Crowns, or Veneers?
Spa Dent gel will not harm any of these and will remove the stains that have accumulated over time returning them to their original colour.
Should I have a Fluoride treatment after whitening?
Whitening opens up the tubuals in your teeth providing the greatest surface area possible for Fluoride to be effective. As an added benefit a neutral Fluoride will seal the tubuals helping to prevent re-staining and eliminate any sensitivity.
How long does it last?
All whitening systems require aftercare to prevent re-staining. Using Spa Dent trays and our whitening pump as a toothpaste boot will maintain your smile.
What results can I expect?
Depending on the product chosen and your starting shade results will vary. With just the pump as a toothpaste booster up to 4 shades in 30 days. With the home kit 8 shades in 7 days and with the 40 minute in office session often more than 8 shades in just 40 minutes. (Based on the Spa Dent shade guide.)
How often can I use your product?
Directions for use are provided on both the home kit and in office products. The whitening gel pump can be used nightly as a toothpaste booster.
How long before I can eat or drink after my treatment?
For the first hour drink only water and after a home or in office treatment avoid staining foods for 24 hours. If you have something staining during that time make sure you brush right away to avoid any staining.
Are there any side effects?
Some people may feel a slight tingling sensation, white gum line, or slight tooth sensitivity. These side effects are normally transient. Typically, they will last less than 10 minutes.
What if my teeth are stained from medications such as tetracycline?
Unfortunately, this is not a stain it is actually part of the tooth and cannot be removed. Your dental professional can review your specific case and provide you with other options.
What are the age restrictions for teeth whitening?
Age restriction in the United States is unregulated, however the ADA suggests 15 years old. In Canada it is regulated to 12 years of age and older. Crest White Strips also recommends 12 years and older.
